Le Moyne Delegation Attends Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice

From聽Oct. 22 to 24, more than 1,000 individuals, including a delegation from聽Le Moyne,聽gathered for the annual聽Ignatian Family聽Teach-In聽for Justice聽in聽Washington, D.C.
Initiated聽in聽1997, the聽teach-in commemorates the lives of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador. The six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper, and her teenage daughter were murdered on Nov. 16, 1989, for speaking out against the country鈥檚 tumultuous civil war. Through work with the poor and marginalized, the Catholic Church and its leaders, including the Jesuits and now-Saint 脫scar Romero, sought to address the long history of inequality and injustice聽in聽the country.
Each year, the聽teach-in聽connects Catholic faith and justice, addressing timely issues through two days of dynamic speakers, breakout sessions and networking opportunities.聽The聽teach-in culminated with more than 1,000 individuals proceeding to legislative advocacy meetings with members of Congress and their staffs on Capitol Hill to urge Congress to advocate for migration reform and action on environmental justice issues.
